To Know God in Kenya

To Know God in Kenya

To Know God personally is something most Christians believe that is a practise of the past and belongs only to the Old Testament.  Knowing God means having a deep relationship with God, the creator of heaven and earth, as you would with your best friend.  It means that you know what is Gods will most of the time and your desire is to glorify God in all you do.

Know God in Kenya

All Christians believe that Jesus Christ came to earth to die for our sins so that we may be redeemed from sin and we may experience eternal life. In John 17:1-3, Jesus described the meaning of eternal life as to Know God and Jesus Christ whom God had sent.  God is the creator of heaven and earth whilst Jesus is described in Colossians 1:15-17 as “the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”

The bible clearly advises that : ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me” Jeremiah 9:23-24.

We have all heard of homes where the Father is feared by his children.  When he comes home they all run to their rooms or to hide because they fear him.  These children cannot know their father.  God who is our father on the other hand does not want us to fear him, he does not want us to run away from him.  That is why when he saw children at his gatherings and the disciples were trying to chase away the little noisy children, Jesus would tell them to allow the children to come to him.  We Christians are Gods children today and he wants us to come to home and know him.  Gods desire is for his children and people to know him and that is why he has sent prophets upon Prophets to reconcile man to him and eventually he sent his son as his last attempt.

The Bible says that God has revealed his will to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, and the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might knowthe things that have been freely given to us by God.  Only the Spirit of God knows all that is of God and so only he can reveal to us what is in Gods heart.

When Christ died he said he will leave us with the Holy Spirit who will teach us the things of God amongst other things.  Only the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of God can teach us about God and can help us know God.  The Holy Spirit is borne into the life of every Christian once we accept Jesus Christ into our lives.  However, most Christians do not Know God even though the Holy Spirit dwells in them and this is because most Christians grieve the Holy Spirit.  Grieving the Holy Spirit is when we do not fellowship with him and he therefore becomes a stranger in our lives.  He takes a back seat, he is not involved in our lives, he does not teach us, and he does not comfort us, he does not counsel us, bottom line we render him jobless in our lives.  The job description he was given by God is not applicable in our lives because we exclude him from our lives.

Many Christians still regard the Holy Spirit the same way as the world.  The man of the world does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”  1 Corinthians 2:9-16 To know God a Christian has to grow in their faith and therefore become spiritual.

God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours and so we need help to understand and Know God.  This is why Jesus when he left earth, he could not leave us alone but had to leave us with a helper, the Holy Spirit.

God says in Hebrews 8:8-11 that he will put his laws in our mind and write them on our hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. None of them shall teach his neighbour, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. God desires that we know him and the Holy Spirit opens our understanding so that we are able to understand the scriptures which are the word of God.Importance of ‘to Know God’ in Kenya?
